Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to the most common questions about Liberty HealthShare, from how health sharing works to details about our programs and services.

What types of expenses do members commonly share?

Eligible expenses include medical costs for illnesses, injuries, and other health-related needs in line with the Sharing Guidelines. This can include hospital or clinic services, surgeries, medical testing, emergency care, ambulance transport, prenatal and maternity care (depending on program), wellness visits and certain preventive screenings.

2

How do members typically submit medical bills for sharing?

In most cases, the member’s provider will submit the medical bill to Liberty HealthShare electronically. If a provider doesn’t do that, members can easily submit medical bills through their ShareBox account or the Liberty HealthShare mobile app. The bills are reviewed according to the Sharing Guidelines.

3

Can Liberty HealthShare be used alongside a direct primary care (DPC) membership?

Yes. Liberty HealthShare members (excluding Liberty Freedom members) may request to have a variable portion of their monthly direct primary care (DPC) membership fees shared.

4

What happens if I need care while traveling?

Liberty HealthShare members can see any provider anywhere in the United States with no network restrictions. If a member needs medical care while outside of the United States, they can submit fair and reasonable expenses in English and converted to U.S. Dollars. The cost needs to be less than it would have been in the United States.

Liberty Assist members are limited to sharing expenses for medically necessary urgent care, as Medicare does not pay for medical care received outside of the United States.

5

Do members get to choose their own doctors and hospitals?

Yes. Members may choose any provider or medical facility. However, if they select a provider participating in the PHCS network, it may streamline the process and reduce the likelihood of receiving a “balance bill” (charges above what’s considered fair and reasonable), which are not eligible for sharing.

6

How quickly do members usually see their expenses shared?

After medical bills are submitted and approved, Liberty HealthShare strives to facilitate sharing within 60-90 days.
